RECORDING SESSIONS

Recording sessions are what I like best. When there are talented people in the studio there is magic in the air!

I designed my studio as a “one room,” that is, there is no division between the director’s room and the live room. I decided that this would be the most convenient solution for me, since I usually make my recordings myself. Instead of flying between the director’s room and the recording room, I preferred to have everything at hand. In front of me is a 32-channel mixing table, on the left is the sentezator/effects corner, and on the right is the hardware (compressors, delays, preamps, interface, Adat and a listening controller). Closer to the wall is a Hammond organ, and a Hohner Clavinet E7 (a similar one was played by Stevie Wonder in the Superstition track). Hanging on the walls are numerous electric guitars and basses. Behind me is a vintage 1970s Tama Fibrestar drum kit. On the other side stands a Zimmermann piano. Next to it is a century-old desk left by my great-grandfather Hippolyte, and on it are two Technics turntables. Everything is within a few steps of my main workspace. Fortunately, the room is quite large (42m2 minus acoustic adaptation) and tall (4m). Everything is ready for action. The microphones are permanently set up to waste as little time as possible when the urge comes, and most of the cables are run under the floor. The studio won’t accommodate a symphony orchestra, but a few people will quietly enter. There’s also a comfortable red couch for when someone feels like pochilling or likes to record sitting down.

Is it possible to record vocals at my place?

Of course. There is not the slightest problem with this. You can even record multiple vocals simultaneously on separate tracks as well as in stereo.

Can an instrument be recorded at my place?

Absolutely. You can come with your own instrument or use the many instruments that are an integral part of my studio (Hammond organ, Clavinet, piano, synthesizers, electric guitars, bass guitars, drums, timbales, rototoms, bongos, dozens of percussion instruments

Can a full band record at my place?

Everything depends on the band and how many tracks you need to record. Is it going to be a “live” recording with all musicians playing simultaneously, or a multi-track recording with separate sections (e.g., drums with bass, horn section, guitars with keyboards, and vocals recorded separately)?

The short answer is YES!!! Absolutely (but everything needs to be carefully discussed and planned).

Can you dub your own productions here?

Definitely yes. Dub is one of the main focuses of this studio. The Soundcraft Sapphyre console offers extensive internal and external effects routing options. I have classic effects from the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s at my disposal. Clients can use, among others, the Roland Space Echo RE-201 tape echo, Fisher Space Expander spring reverb, Benidub spring reverb with multiple “spring tank” options, a Westfinga filter in the style of King Tubby, Korg SDD 2000 delay, Eventide Time Factor delay, Eventide Space reverb, and many more.

Can you listen to your productions or make final adjustments before the mixdown here?

Yes, absolutely. If you produce and mix your own music but don’t have access to a professional studio with good acoustics, you can rent my studio for a critical listening session of your mix or mastering. We can also discuss your productions—maybe I can help or give you some advice, or simply provide honest feedback about the sound, arrangement, or any other aspect of your production (of course, only if you want). It’s best to bring your laptop with you so you can connect it to my Focusrite Clarett+ 8Pre interface via USB cable or hook up an audio cable directly to my studio monitors.

Can you record video at my place?

Yes, definitely! I can even help you a bit by providing my two photographic lamps and a photo/video tripod. However, we need to arrange it in advance because sometimes my studio is a bit of an artistic mess 😉

Can you record a DJ set at my place?

Yes, I have two Technics turntables and a Pioneer DJM 707 mixer available. I can also provide my Serato SL3. Just please bring your own sound systems. I don’t have CDJs or a controller, so if you want, you can bring your own gear.

Is there anything that’s not allowed in my studio?

Yes. The studio is a non-smoking area. Smoking cigarettes or e-cigarettes is not allowed inside. You can always step outside to the garden for that purpose.
