MASTERING

Professional mastering at Superfly Studio

Mastering is the final, yet crucial stage of music production. This is where I ensure your tracks sound cohesive, professional, and great on every playback system — from headphones and phones to radios, streaming platforms, and clubs. My goal is to bring out the maximum quality from the final mix without compromising its musicality and character.

At the mastering stage, I work fully digitally, using the best available VST plugins — from companies such as PSP Audioware, Waves, Universal Audio, Softube, Lindell, Voxengo, Soundtoys and many others. Thanks to these, I have precise control over dynamics, tonal balance, spatial imaging, and final loudness.

What is mastering?

Mastering is a complex process that combines technical precision with musical intuition. In practice, this includes, among others:

  • tonal correction (equalization) — precise adjustment of frequency balance,
  • compression and dynamic control — leveling levels without losing energy,
  • saturation and subtle harmonic distortion — to give the material an analog character and depth,
  • limiting and clipping — to achieve appropriate loudness and compliance with standards,
  • stereo panorama width control — to maintain spaciousness without losing cohesion,
  • mono-izing the lowest frequencies — which is key to making the bass sound stable across various playback systems.

Professional mastering requires not only tools but primarily proper acoustic conditions and high-quality monitoring systems. Thanks to these, I can hear every detail and make informed decisions at the highest level. I work in a 42 m² room with a height of 4 meters, where every wall — including the ceiling — has been acoustically treated. Such a space provides a neutral, clear, and predictable environment for working with sound.

I have three professional monitoring systems at my disposal, along with several pairs of reference headphones, which allows me to evaluate the sound from various perspectives:

  • Sveda Audio Dapo + 15” subwoofer Sveda Audio Wombat – my main mastering monitors of Polish manufacture, enabling me to hear the full frequency spectrum, from the deepest bass to the most detailed high frequencies.
  • Yamaha NS-10M – a classic in recording studios worldwide. Due to their limited frequency range (few lows and highs), they focus attention on the midrange, which is great for understanding how a track will sound on typical consumer equipment.
  • Event TR8XL – American monitors with 8-inch woofers that have been with me since the beginning of my journey. I know them inside out and often return to them as a reference point.

For me, mastering is not just a technical process – it’s also about listening, sensitivity, and aesthetics. I treat each track individually, tailoring the process to its style and needs. This is especially important for larger music projects — such as albums, EPs, or compilations — where mastering ensures a cohesive sound across the entire material.

I prepare versions compliant with the requirements of streaming platforms, YouTube, radio, CD, or vinyl.
If you have a mix that sounds good but needs that final polish, I will professionally master it and help you take the last step toward release.
